A Luscious $6 Meal - Dumplings AND Noodles

October 3, 2007

I used to never understand why Chinese people go ga-ga over dumplings.  Dumplings just seem so sacred to so many Asian people I know.  Din Tai Fung this, Din Tai Fung that. After eating at Luscious Dumplings in San Gabriel, I finally understood the power of the dumpling.  Dumplings = Love.

Please visit Luscious Dumplings; it will make you happy.  This bright, cute, and clean spot serves up delectable dumplings and yummy noodle soups that make you feel good inside.  The word dumpling in and of itself is just too cute.  Wandering Chopsticks has posted extensively about this place, and she advises not to go after 1pm for lunch because the dumplings run out.  Many times I have heard of people going to the place and finding it was closed or out of dumplings.  Heed the hours below; they’re closed on Mondays and closed in between lunch and dinner (to make more dumplings, I presume.)

For $6, you can get a good bowl of noodle soup with beef or pork in it (I had the beef brisket - loved it) and 5 dumplings, or for $5.50 - 6.00, you can get 10 dumplings or a large bowl of soup.  I had pan-fried dumplings and ones with napa cabbage and pork in them; the skins were not too thin and delicate and not overly thick and old-tasting.  They were just right.  The fillings were tasty and delish.  The broth was not overly greasy; actually it was a little on the plain side, which I appreciated. This is one of the best $6 lunch/dinner deals I have seen.  Wandering Chopsticks took a shot of their menu (scroll down) and BiggestMenu.com has lots of pics of LD’s excellent food.

I am fortunate that I live near this place and can roll out of bed in the morning, looking like a dumpling, to a nourishing bowl of soup.  In fact, I can’t wait till I the next time I am sick, so that I can go get cured at this place.  Try to get there early to beat the lunch and dinner rushes.  The seating area is tiny, but nice.

Remember, Dumplings = Love.
